Saturday Parking

So it’s Saturday morning and you want to go to ‘town’ to shop (or maybe attend a conference at Central Bank Auditorium). For whichever of the numerous possible reasons, no one can drop you or pick you back up and you are not even going to attempt to rely on public transportation. The parkade (your go-to spot during the week) is closed…where are you going to park? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We took a walk around the promenade, asked some questions to some car park attendants and even a police traffic warden and got some answers! Make sure you have cash, the going rate is $7 an hour but we found some exceptions to that rule. Here are your options!

(Upper) Chacon Street has 3 public car parks and fortunately they open on a Saturday.

A. Chacon Street Car Park
Opening Hours: 6:00 am – 4:00 pm
Cost: $7 per hr

B. The Cark Park with a blue booth
Opening Hours: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Cost: $7 per hr

C. Excellent Stores Car Park
Opening Hours: 7:00 am – 3:00 pm
Cost: $8 per hr

There is a car park on Frederick Street where the drag mall previously stood opposite Miguel Moses which is the cheapest car park and it also stays open the latest on a Saturday!

D. Frederick Street
Opening Hours: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm
Cost: $5 per hr

One block over on Henry Street we have another late opener, they stay open as long as there are customers to park. But note depending on where you park, you may need to leave your car key.

E. Henry Street
Opening Hours: 6:00 am till
Cost: $7 per hr

We found this next one by city gate. Look for the green booth.

F. Transcorp Development Company Limited
Opening Hours: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
Cost: $7 per hr

We noticed Treasury Street has parking along both sides of the street so if you are looking for a free option, try your luck there. Our traffic warden friend told us that the rules for street parking on a Saturday/weekend are a lot more lax than during the week. Same applies to lower Edward Street and St Vincent Street and along the promenade.

Hopefully this information calmed all your fears with regards to knowing your car is safe when you’re downtown POS and more importantly when you’re at a conference that’s taking place at Central Bank Auditorium on Nov 1st.

With that being said, we hope to see you all there ready to share your ideas worth doing.

At our TEDxPortofSpain event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. Learn more about TEDx. Learn more about TEDx
