Bringing the theme of “Connecting” to Life
“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.” – Chief Seattle.
In exploring this year’s theme of Connecting, we first considered the concept of relationships. Initial visual research consisted of a few sketches and a collection of images that conveyed the concept in different ways.
Puzzles, gears and even the Rubik’s cube came to mind as they fit together to make something work or make something whole.
The idea of networking or mapping was also part of the initial concept development stage and was seen as a representation of individuals at a TEDx event that are able to connect with what is being communicated by the speakers and with other attendees.
This thought process led to a very minimalist visual expression of TEDx, most powerfully seen through these connectors. Ultimately, this visualization of the theme allows for audience interaction and represents an opportunity for individuals to make their own connections.
The decision to eliminate the lines between the dots represents the fact that connection is ultimately, a choice.
