TEDxPortofSpain Salon – Gayap

We are excited to announce our second TEDxPortofSpainSalon event for 2014, ‘Gayap’!

So what is Gayap?

“The word ‘gayap’ is derived from the indigenous Karinya (Carib) word ‘kayapa’ – a term which describes the tradition of people getting together to complete a huge task, like clearing land, building a structure, or planting and reaping. In return, the family would provide food and drink, and there would be some kind of music, usually drumming.”
 

Why the invite?

In the spirit of ‘ideas worth spreading’, TEDxPortofSpain will be hosting a gathering called a TEDxPortofSpainSalon. At this event, we will bring together active environmental changemakers in the local community. Our goal is to inspire, challenge and most of all, spark lively conversations on issues which will engage curious souls.

Since our focus is on environmental sustainability we are targeting conservationists/nature lovers, major companies that impact the environment, agricultural organisations, farmers/gardeners and everyone else — yes, that includes you!

We believe that having you at the event will help add value and promote more interesting and enlightening discussions. The meeting of ideas will hopefully result in positive actions. We will be viewing TED videos, exchanging ideas and networking.

We also believe that you are an active person in this space and would appreciate if you can invite three other persons from your network who would identify with what we aim to achieve.

Additionally, this event is organised by a group of volunteers. We simply ask for a minimal payment of $TT80 in order to cover our costs. This can be facilitated via payment online or for cash payments, you can make a deposit to our ScotiaBank account. Here are the details:
