Carla advises clients in traditional corporate industries on a variety of copyright and trademark concerns and provides specialist advice to persons in the music, film, animation, events management, fashion, sports and broadcast industries. In January 2018 she produced and hosted a YouTube talk show entitled “The Business of Carnival” which was designed to educate persons on the legal and business aspects of the carnival industry. Over the years she has published newspaper articles on the importance of Intellectual Property Law to the creative sector and operated as a consultant for the government of Trinidad and Tobago, the OECS Commission, the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee. Apart from running her solo practice Carla is actively involved in a multitude of public education initiatives.
She was a part-time lecturer in the Film Department of the University of the West Indies in Entertainment Law. She has also participated in over 20 Intellectual Property law and creative sector conferences in Trinidad and Tobago and across the Caribbean region. Carla is active and engaging on social media and has produced and appeared in online Caribbean Entertainment Law educational videos. Carla also wrote a series in the Business Guardian newspaper concerning a plethora of topics surrounding Intellectual Property Law and carnival. In January 2017 she co-produced a five-part TV series entitled “The Business of Carnival with one of the domestic television stations “CTV “in Trinidad and Tobago which aired during the carnival season.
